The Wisconsin Supreme Court has a duty to uphold our freedoms under our state laws and state constitution. In the near future, we can expect the Court to hear cases regarding:

Some recent cases that came before the WI Supreme Court:
Teigen v. Wisconsin Elections Commission
One result of this case was the prohibition of drop boxes in Wisconsin. Drop boxes were a long-standing, accessible practice, but now, voters can no longer use them.

Clean Wisconsin v. Department of Natural Resources
These two cases regarded the DNR and its authority to protect Wisconsin’s water. The Court decided the DNR can and must act to avoid and control potential groundwater contamination.
Kaul v. Prehn
This case allowed a member of the board of directors of the DNR to remain after his term expired as a result of the state legislature refusing to certify the new governor’s appointees. This is essentially a refusal to transfer power according to voters’ choice.

Johnson v. Wisconsin Elections Commission
This case imposed gerrymandered maps at the expense of voters. The decision allows one political party to draw maps that guarantee they maintain a majority.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court is an elected body that exists to defend our freedoms under our state laws and state constitution.
Many of the freedoms that we have as Wisconsinites have come before the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the past. And, many of the freedoms that we have as Wisconsinites could come before the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the future.
